Technion Program for Excellence

Waheb Bishara / Electrical Engineering, Physics

First degrees in Electrical Engineering and Physics at the Technion.

Direct PhD at MIT, where he studied topological phases of matter, non-abelian statistics and quantum Hall physics.

Post-Doc in Electrical Engineering at UCLA
Participated in the Technion Excellence Program: 2000 – 2003.

During his undergrad, Waheb did research in MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical Systems). Being in the Program made it easier for him to approach professors and get their attention. His research in MEMS involved designing the electrical and mechanical parts of a micron size gyroscope. His research was under the supervision of Prof. Yael Nemirovsky from the Electrical Engineering faculty.

Today (2012): Waheb is a RF and Plasma Engineer at Applied Materials in Santa Clara, California, working on developing etching tools for nano-scale material processing.

Recommendation to Program participants: “Use the freedom given by the Program to broaden your knowledge and explore multidisciplinary ideas. Specializing in a particular topic will come sooner or later.”
