Julia Chuzhoy / Computer Science

BSc, MSc and PhD degrees in Ccomputer Science at the Technion.

Participated in the Technion Excellence Program: 1996 – 1998.
Towards the end of her undergraduate studies Julia began her second degree doing research on the topic: approximation algorithms for hard cuts problems, under the direction of Prof. Yuval Rabani.

Julia continued her studies and earned a PhD under the guidance of Prof. Seffi Naor. Then, she was a postdoctoral scholar for three years at MIT, The University of Pennsylvania and the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton.

About the Program: “Thanks to the economic advantages of the Program I did not need to work  for a living and I was able to devote all my time to studies and concentrate on the subjects that interested me. Attendance at the scientific lectures given in the framework of the Program exposed me to various subjects – not necessarily in the field of computer science – which aroused my interest and enriched my knowledge.”

Recommendation to Program participants: “Try to find a field which excites you. In order to do so- you should learn about a wide variety of ares at the beginning, before choosing your area of expertise. Do not be afraid of thinking about difficult and famous problems, which have been researched by many known researchers”.

Today (2017): A professor at Toyota Technological Institute in Chicago.
Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at The University of Chicago.
