The excellence program has for me been fundamental in developing scientific research skills early on while also providing several research opportunities that have widened my horizons. My MSc/PhD research field began as part of a research internship organized by the program with various faculty members, and was further supported by the program's own courses throughout the BSc. The vast flexibility with course selection offered exclusively by the program allowed me to prioritize the courses in the undergraduate degree according to relevance to the graduate research, and the unique environment created by the program's excellent students fostered scientific research and collaborations at the highest level.

During my undergraduate studies, the program allowed me to tailor my curriculum and combine a BSc in mathematics with a BSc in electrical engineering. The program inspired me to always look at existing problems from new angles, to be open to exciting opportunities in other domains, and to try and find the common ground between topics from seemingly unrelated disciplines. I joined the program in my second year as a math student, when I was keen on studying abstract and theoretical mathematics. Through the program, I was first exposed to the beauty and rigor of other domains, as well as having my first opportunity to conduct research while still in my bachelor's degree (about applied mathematics and optics). The tools I developed with support of the program allowed me to conduct research at a high level in various disciplines, ranging from abstract mathematics, statistics and computer science all the way to energy, economics and electrical engineering.

The program had much influence on my professional life.
I had exposure to many different fields, allowing me to become a much better autodidact and entering new fields much more easily, an important skill for a data scientist.
Thanks to the program, I ended up learning two B.Sc. in physics and applied math, which was a very useful and interesting starting point for me, both for job applications and for doing my M.Sc. in applied math.
I got my first job as a junior data scientist due to a lecture in the program - a previous student had come to give a lecture, and we ended up talking a lot after the talk, and he suggested I apply to a position in his company and advocated for me.
My M.Sc. advisor was also a previous student in the program, and it was likely a factor in taking me into his lab.
