The excellence program has for me been fundamental in developing scientific research skills early on while also providing several research opportunities that have widened my horizons. My MSc/PhD research field began as part of a research internship organized by the program with various faculty members, and was further supported by the program's own courses throughout the BSc. The vast flexibility with course selection offered exclusively by the program allowed me to prioritize the courses in the undergraduate degree according to relevance to the graduate research, and the unique environment created by the program's excellent students fostered scientific research and collaborations at the highest level.

During my undergraduate studies, the program allowed me to tailor my curriculum and combine a BSc in mathematics with a BSc in electrical engineering. This formed the basis for a career path that combines two great passions of mine: abstract mathematical theory, and practical systems having real-world impact.

In later years, the program boosted my career by producing excellent graduates who ultimately joined my research lab at Tel Aviv University or Imubit. These graduates are among the best mentees I ever had.

The Technion Excellence Program has helped build my confidence in research, giving me the chance – never taken for granted – to have hands-on experience in research from a very early stage of my academic journey. The toolset and the mindset of excellence we earned from the program remain with me to this day.

The program enabled me to profoundly expand my knowledge beyond the traditional medical curriculum. By providing unique research opportunities, I could combine both medical knowledge with interdisciplinary approaches, allowing me to address some of the most pressing challenges in cancer research. This experience has definitely shaped the way I perceive science and research methodologies.

The program profoundly influenced my commitment to continuous learning and professional growth, fostering a mindset that has propelled my academic pursuits and career advancements. It also shaped my professional identity and boosted my confidence, enabling me to seize opportunities and tackle challenges with a stronger sense of purpose and capability.

The program was (and still is) a great way for me to stand out, get new opportunities, and create connections.

The Technion Excellence program provided me with the flexibility to explore my academic interests, paving the way for my research focus in graduate school.

The program inspired me to always look at existing problems from new angles, to be open to exciting opportunities in other domains, and to try and find the common ground between topics from seemingly unrelated disciplines. I joined the program in my second year as a math student, when I was keen on studying abstract and theoretical mathematics. Through the program, I was first exposed to the beauty and rigor of other domains, as well as having my first opportunity to conduct research while still in my bachelor's degree (about applied mathematics and optics). The tools I developed with support of the program allowed me to conduct research at a high level in various disciplines, ranging from abstract mathematics, statistics and computer science all the way to energy, economics and electrical engineering.

The program encouraged me to study whatever I want, this led to a minor in Biology on top of a Math & Physics degree. Now as I'm facing the choice of the field for my thesis I feel my options are broader.

Take advantage of the program’s lectures in order to learn about new research areas. Take advanced classes at an early stage of your undergraduate studies in order to be exposed to different research topics. Approach faculty members and show interest in working in their lab on research projects.

I had the opportunity to engage in research from an early stage, allowing me to explore which type of research suits me best.

The Technion Excellence Program had a profound impact on my professional life:

Dual Degree Advantage: The program enabled me to pursue both medical school and a B.S. in chemistry simultaneously. This unique combination provided me with a strong foundation in both scientific and medical fields, allowing me to approach medical challenges with a broader perspective.

Research Experience: With the program’s encouragement I worked for almost three years in Professor David Eisenberg's lab for electrochemistry and energy. The challenge gave me invaluable research experience. My research, published in Materials Advances, honed my scientific skills, and ignited my passion for combining medicine with basic science research.

Lifelong Learning Mindset: The program instilled a lifelong learning mindset. By exposing me to diverse scientific fields, it ignited a passion for continuous learning. I’m sure this ability to adapt and embrace new knowledge will be instrumental in my future endeavors.

Don’t be a afraid to step outside your comfort zone – take courses that you might fail, try doing research that might not go anywhere.
Tackling new challenges is the best way to learn, and the Program gives you the tools and support you need to do it.

Extracurricular activities tend to be the gate to the most fascinating opportunities – take advantage of the benefits the program gives you. Help each other, having a community before you even started to study is a great advantage. Start your research experience early and stick to it if you can. It will prove itself beneficial.

The program had much influence on my professional life.
I had exposure to many different fields, allowing me to become a much better autodidact and entering new fields much more easily, an important skill for a data scientist.
Thanks to the program, I ended up learning two B.Sc. in physics and applied math, which was a very useful and interesting starting point for me, both for job applications and for doing my M.Sc. in applied math.
I got my first job as a junior data scientist due to a lecture in the program - a previous student had come to give a lecture, and we ended up talking a lot after the talk, and he suggested I apply to a position in his company and advocated for me.
My M.Sc. advisor was also a previous student in the program, and it was likely a factor in taking me into his lab.

As a scientist you always can either do something brave or go with the stream. If you decide to do great things the road might be rocky – but at the end – you might change the world.

Contrary to expectation, undergraduate-time is the best for taking advanced courses. So do not postpone anything you really want to know. Also, use the program benefits (even if you need to twist it a bit). It’s fun. Most importantly, make sure to take part in academic research, because it’ll give to a taste of how it is to continue in the academia.

For me, the Technion’s Excellence Program was all about acceleration. It was about meeting the strongest people in their respective fields, and interacting with leaders from academia and industry. The Program will be your ticket in – a way to become part of a bigger team that innovates where it matters.

Participating in the program has provided me with robust foundational knowledge and a broader perspective. It has refined my ability to delve deeply into subjects, all of which significantly enhance my capabilities in an R&D environment.

The program provided me with the opportunity to explore various fields of science, allowing me to choose courses across the entire spectrum. I gained valuable experience by working on different projects. Additionally, the program equipped me with tools that prepared me for my graduate studies, including the ability to perform and lecture in English. Lastly, being surrounded by peers from the program motivated me to excel in my studies, and I’ve remained in touch with them even after the program concluded.

The mandatory math courses helped me realize how much I enjoy math, which in turn guided my decision to focus on probability theory for my MSc research area. In addition, as part of the program, I started a research project that eventually led to the publication of a paper during my undergraduate studies. This research project helped me better understand my interests—an opportunity that most undergraduate students do not have.

Being in the Program provided the confidence boost and the flexibility that I needed to start on my path as a researcher, and I am incredibly grateful for that.

The program left a lasting impression on my professional path, mainly through the wonderful people I met. Among them were individuals of exceptional brilliance, some of whom are now cherished friends, while others have become trusted colleagues. Utilize the freedom that the Program allows. It is worthwhile examining your academic direction at an early stage of your studies. Research is highly recommended.

The program allowed me to take some courses without prerequisites. It allowed me to focus on my studies, and introduced me to a wide spectrum of topics. The program made it easy to find like-minded people to study with. I also met my wife there!

The Program was more than just an academic track for me—it truly became my second home for three years. It provided me with the tools and freedom to practice academic research early on, beginning already in my second year, while also allowing me to take courses across different faculties and broaden my knowledge. I had the privilege of meeting some of the smartest and most inspiring people I know, many of whom remain close friends to this day. Looking back, applying to the program was without doubt one of the best decisions I have ever made, both academically and personally.
