Matan Berko / Technion Excellence Program

About Myself:  I was born in 2001 and have lived my entire life in Gedera. From a young age, I have been deeply interested in science, particularly physics. The answers that physics provides to some of the universe's most intriguing questions have always fascinated me.

I graduated in 2019 from Darca Begin High School in Gedera, where I majored in physics, mathematics, and robotics.

During my three years in high school, I participated in a computational science program at the Weizmann Institute of Science. This program taught me how to use computers to create simulations of real-life physics concepts, combining my physics knowledge with programming skills. I learned Java and MATLAB and expanded my understanding of physics independently. The skills I gained from this program will undoubtedly benefit my future academic studies.

In high school, I also volunteered with the Maccabi Hatzair youth movement, where I helped educate young people about values and patriotism and led engineering and construction projects for pioneering structures.

Following high school, I served in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) for three years in the paratroopers brigade, specifically in the 890th battalion. My duties included guarding Israel's borders to ensure civilian safety. After being honorably discharged, I immediately rejoined the army as a reserve soldier, serving for five months during the 7.10 war effort. I continue to serve in the reserves as needed.

Hobbies and Other Activities:  I enjoy hiking and traveling, listening to rock music from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, and reading non-fiction books. I also enjoy running, gymnastics, and skiing. Additionally, I have a passion for grilling and experimenting with different types of quality meats.
